Tezpur University
Tezpur University is a Central University situated in Tezpur in the North-Eastern state of Assam, India, established by an act of the Parliament, in 1994.
The establishment of Tezpur University is considered to be one of the outcomes of Assam Accord, along with the establishment of the Assam University and Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.
Tezpur University was established, by an Act of Parliament, in the year 1994. The then-prime minister of India, P. V. Narasimha Rao, chaired the opening of the university.
Initially, the institute operated from the premises of the Darrang College, in Tezpur. For a while, it also operated from Tezpur Law College premises. Land was acquired at the Napaam, a suburb, which is about 15 km (9.3 mi) east of Tezpur, area of 262 acres (106 ha). A few months later, the premises of the university were shifted to the present permanent location.
Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rava (Rabha) donated an ancestral estate of 2500 bigha of land area received from the British government in favour of the peasants. The present-day Tezpur University stands on the land donated by him. Recently, in the year 2013, the university acquired an additional plot of land, extending the current plot.

comprises a set of Courses, some of which are core and others are elective.
Flexibility exists for candidates to opt for elective Courses on their own
choices from a pool. Candidates are also required to register for some
interdisciplinary Courses as open elective under the Choice Based Credit
System. The study Courses across the Departments are designed in such a way
that multiple teaching pedagogies can be incorporated in delivering the
contents of a study Course.
The medium of instruction and exams at all the levels in the
University is English, except for the courses on languages such as Hindi,
Assamese, Chinese, German, etc. In framing the study courses, care is taken so
that candidates are NOT burdened with formal lectures only. There is adequate
provision for the seminars, tutorials, case studies, guided field work, etc.,
whatever is necessary, to promote the habit of independent thinking.
To relate theoretical knowledge to the practical field, proper measures are taken to conduct case studies and guided field works from the real-life problems. Group Discussion is also used as a teaching pedagogy to increase the analytical capability and creativity of the candidates.
