Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya 

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya is a central university situated in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, India. It is one of the largest and oldest institutions of higher education of Chhattisgarh. Established under Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of year 2009. 

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya is a Central University of India, situated in Bilaspur C.G. State, established under Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of 2009. Formerly called as Guru Ghasidas University (GGU), established by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly which was formally inaugurated on June 16, 1983. 

GGU is an active member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Located in a socially and economically challenged area, the institute is appropriately named to honor the great Satnami Saint Guru Ghasidas (born in 17th century), who championed the cause of the downtrodden and waged a relentless struggle against all forms of the social evils and injustice prevailing in the society. 

The University is a residential University. 

Obiectives

The objectives of the university are as follow:-

-       'To disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of rhe learning as it may deem fit;

-       to make special provisions for the integrated courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, Science and Technology in its educational programs;

-       to take appropriate measures for promoting the innovations in teaching-learning process and interdisciplinary studies and research;

-       to educate and train the manpower for development of the country;

-       to establish the linkages with industries for the promotion of science and technology; and

-       to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people, their intellectual, academic and the cultural development.

Vision

Motivated by the thoughts and teachings of the Guru Ghasidas, a great Satnami Saint of 18th Century, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur CG is committed to the social empowerment, particularly of the weaker sections of the society with the help of the quality higher education and training.

The focus of the Institute is on offering and strengthening innovative academic programs in emerging interdisciplinary areas of the Science, Social Sciences and Humanities with quality assurance so as to contribute to the growth of knowledge base of the university in particular and academic in general. School of Studies in Engineering and Technology 

Institute of Technology, Guru Ghasidas University (IT-GGV) is an Constituent institution of Guru Ghasidas University. It was established in year 1997. Currently, institute offers Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology and Ph.D in various engineering disciplines. Admissions to B.Tech. course is done on the basis of merit obtained by the student in JEE-main. 

Department of Law 

The Department of Law offers 2 five-year integrated BA LLB and B.Com. LLB. It was established in year 2012. Candidates are admitted through the VET (Vishwavidhyalaya entrance test). The Department of Law is situated inside the University teaching department) campus. 

National Centre for Accelerator-Based Research 

GGV is going to establish a 3.0 MV pellet on accelerator(9SDH-4, NEC). This is in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Board of Research in Nuclear Science, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India and the University, which is for setting a Special Scientific Centre in the university campus with the name "National Centre for Accelerator-based Research''(in short NCAR). This interdisciplinary research facility is related to the atomic energy; it would help to create skilled manpower required for the nuclear plants. NCAR will be the first of its kind in the entire Central India. The machine has already been delivered from National Electrostatics Corporation, United States. The procedure of developing necessary infrastructure is going on. NCAR organised 2 days national workshop on particle accelerators under the aegis of the Indian Society of Particle Accelerator(ISPA) on February 18–19, 2014 

Central Library 

The Central Library was established on 26th Oct. 1984 as a part of the Institute to meet the academic needs and requirements of the candidates, teachers and research scholars. It is housed in a spacious building, having seating capacity of more than 500 seats at a time. Its collection comprises 1,52,033 books, 5258 e-books, 4567 back volumes of Indian/ Foreign scholarly journals and 1433 Ph.D. theses. Library uses SOUL 2.0 software for the automation and to provide RFID based services to its users. Free Internet and Wi-Fi facilities have been made available to the users inside the Library and campus to access the e-resources. Reprography, Current awareness service (CAS) and Selective dissemination of the information (SDI) were also made available on the demand. 

University Campus

The University campus is spread over an area of approx. 655 acres. The University campus is located 5 Km away from the main town. The garland of the ornamental trees and ponds crows the site. Garden, meadows, trees and shrubs have been used according to a bio-aesthetic plan to make the site attractive and hospitable. 

The Building complex is constructed at a cost of about 800 lakhs including Academic Complex, Computer Centre, Hostels (boys and girls), Administrative wing, Guest house, Forestry complex ( Aranya Sadan ), Warden Quarters, Staff quarters. V.C. Lodge, Registrar's Bungalow and Buildings for the Management Institute, Institute of Technology, Pharmacy, Vishwavidyalaya Library, Physics, Rural Technology, Forestry and other institute teaching departments are situated amidst lush greenery in the pleasant clime. 

The university campus dons a cosmopolitan look with candidates hailing from all over India. 

University Hostel 

Three Boys hostels and One Girls Hostel are available to provide the accommodation to the students that are as follows:- 

  1. Swami Vivekanand Boys Hostel (436 Seats)
  2. Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Boys Hostel (200 Seats)
  3. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Boys Hostel (200 Seats)
  4. Raj Mohini Devi Girls Hostel (436 Seats)
  5. Guidelines for Hostel Accommodation 

Candidates studying in the UTD seeking hostel accommodation will be required to apply in the prescribed application form.

In view of the limited hostel facilities available, the students may please note that the grant of admission to a course of a study in the university would not automatically entitle one for the allotment of hostel accommodation and that the application of the candidates for the Hostel allotment will be considered if seats in the hostel are available.

Fee or Hostel Charges will be as mentioned in the hostel application form.

Hostel residents are expected to observe the rules and regulations prescribed for them as well as all the requirements of the corporate life and the social norms that living together demands.

Failure to observe discipline or violation of rules may make a candidates liable to the disciplinary action which may result in the withdrawal of the Hostel Facilities. 

Sports 

The Department of Physical Education was established in the year 1985 to provide quality education in the field of the physical education. It is recognized by NCTE and has developed playgrounds and the exercise physiology labs. The department has a dedicated team of competent teachers and instructors to provide sport specific training and teaching assignments. The candidates of the department participate in several Inter-University and All India University level sports competitions every year. Departments extend the opportunity to all the university candidates to participate in the Inter-Faculty Tournament every year. The department has also started Ad-on course on six weeks certificate course in Yogic Science from 2016-17. The department organises health and fitness welfare activities and sports tournaments for teaching and non-teaching staff of the University Time to time. 

The Department is committed to excellence in sports performance, teaching, research and community service in the fields of Physical Education and Sports by providing Quality Education and a Congenial environment to candidates and staff. The Department provides specialization in the games of Badminton, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Basketball, Football, Cricket, and Athletics. The department has accomplished the greatest achievement of the candidates where 90% of the candidates are recruited in Central Govt Institutions, State govt institutions, CGPSC, Indian Railways, Defence Services. The foremost aim of the department is to prepare an ideal Physical Education teacher, trained in every aspect of life so that they are competent and versatile in dealing with the future demands of the society.
