DR. Y.S.R. HORTICULTURE UNIVERSITY 

Dr. YSR Horticultural University is established by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in the year 2007 to provide the quality education and training in horticulture to the students. It is second Horticulture University of the nation and first in the south India. For Andhra Pradesh being the leader in the production of the mango, oil palm, chilies, turmeric, sweet orange, papaya and also being the second largest producer of the total fruits, deserves a Horticultural university to the increase the productivity, sustainability, and commercialization of the horticulture in the state.  Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, formerly Andhra Pradesh Horticultural University, is the state university located at Venkataramannagudem, near Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, in India. It was established in 2007 by the Government of the Andhra Pradesh and focuses on education and research of horticultural sciences. 

Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University was established in the  2007 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as the Andhra Pradesh Horticultural University, together with the three colleges of horticulture, at Venkataramannagudem in the West Godavari district, Mojerla in Mahaboob Nagar district and Anantharajupet in The Kadapa district, as well as the some educational programmes which were offered under the Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University. It was originally managed by the government official until the appointment of the first Vice-Chancellor in the 2008, when it became independent.It was renamed as the Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University in 2011. 

Dr. YSR Horticulture University B. Sc. Or Diploma Admission:

Students should have passed the Intermediate Examination of 10+2 format conducted by the Board of the Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh or any other examination recognized as the equivalent thereto by the University or Board of Intermediate Education with either of the following subjects: 

·         Physical Sciences

·         Biological or Natural Science

To get the diploma from Dr. YSR Horticulture University one should have completed 10^th class from the reputed board with the minimum grade being 5.0

Dr. YSR Horticulture University M.Sc. Admission:

For pursuing M. Sc from the YSR Horticulture University, one should have completed their 10+2 from the recognized board and should hold a bachelor’s degree from a known university. 

Dr. YSR Ph. D. Admission:

The students should have completed his/her postgraduation from the recognized University. Admissions will be done on the basis of the following criteria: 

·         The academic record of M.Sc. (Hort.) – 30%

·         The academic record of B.Sc. (Hort.) – 10%

·         Performance in Entrance Test – 50%

·         Interview – 10%

Dr. YSR Horticulture University Facilities:

Hostel: 

All the Colleges of Horticulture run by the university have hostel facilities for both the boys and girls.

The five Horticulture Polytechnics too provide fully equipped hostel facilities for the candidates.

·         Dr YSR Horticulture University is the first horticulture university in South India with 1 crore acres of the campus area.

·         The university runs on the land grant pattern followed in the USA by putting total emphasis on education, research, and extension of horticulture. Therefore, the mandate includes; Human resource development through education, conducting need-based research, and dissemination of the proven technologies developed through the research.

·         Dr YSR Horticulture University presently has the 4 horticultural colleges, 4 horticulture polytechnics, 4 affiliated colleges, and 7 affiliated horticulture polytechnic colleges, 19 research stations, and 4 Krishi Vigyan Kendra. All and all the total of 42 institutions related to the field of horticulture are currently present in the Andhra Pradesh.

Forecasting the horticultural growth potential in the state, the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh had established Andhra Pradesh Horticultural University (APHU) second of its kind in the country at Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari District vide Govt. Act No. 30 of 2007 (G.O.Ms.No.134 dated 26.06.2007) carved out of its parent University i.e. ANGRAU, Rajendranagar with the four (4) constituent colleges. Subsequently, it was renamed as the Dr.YSR Horticultural University vide Act No.13 of 2011.The university has a mandate of human resource development through Education, conducting need-based Research and disseminating proven technologies through Extension.Due to the bifurcation of the Andhra Pradesh state in 2014, Dr.YSRHU has come under residual Andhra Pradesh State comprising two Horticulture Colleges i.e. College of the Horticultural Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari District and College of the Horticulture, Anantharajupeta, Kadapa District with the UG, PG and Ph.D. degree program and four (4) diploma in the horticultural polytechnics under its administration along with five (5) private affiliated horticultural polytechnics from 2016-17. The Government of Andhra Pradesh also has sanctioned one more constituent Horticultural College at the Parvathipuram with intake of 50 students to cater the needs of north coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh raising total intake in UG program to The 250 seats per annum from 2016-17. One affiliated horticultural college was also sanctioned with an intake of 60 candidates in UG course from 2016-17.During 2016-17 the university has 3 constituent colleges, 1 affiliated college for UG and PG and four (4) diploma in the horticulture polytechnics and five (5) private affiliated horticultural polytechnics and 17 Horticultural Research Stations and 3 Krishi Vigyan Kendras under its control with the jurisdiction of the 13 districts in the state. 

Achievements:

·         Modernisation of the UG classrooms and PG classrooms with false ceiling, model desks, LCD projector.

·          Modernization of dining hall with the new dining tables and canteen

·         Repair to poly houses or shadenet houses and installation of drip irrigation systems for the instructional farms

·         Modernization of labs with wall tables, cupboards and work benches.

·         Refurbishing of hostel rooms (girls & boys) with the cupboards

·         Establishment of the R.O. plant for girls hostel

·         Modernization of the administrative office building with false ceiling and lighting etc.

·         Modernization of computer labs and partitioning of the central labs.

·         Construction of cricket pitch and remodeling of the playground and running track.

·         Central instrumentation laboratory was established with the A/c facility and classrooms

·         Lot of components were purchased required for the different department labs and central instrumentation lab at both the colleges

·         Some of the scientific equipment got repaired and brought under working conditions in the colleges for use.
