DR. PANJABRAO DESHMUKH KRISHI VIDYAPEETH 

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), Akola was established in the 1969. It offers programs dedicated to the agrarian sciences. The courses offered include B.Sc, B.Tech, M.Sc, M.Tech, and Doctoral Degree programs in the faculties of Agriculture and Engineering. Admissions to the courses are conducted based on the various entrance tests for PG programs, and on merit in the previous examinations for UG programs. Placements are provided with the top companies to deserving candidates. 

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola was established on 20th October, 1969 with its head-quarter at the Akola. This Agricultural University was named after the illustrious son of the Vidarbha Dr. Panjabrao (alias Bhausaheb) Deshmukh, who was the Minister for Agriculture,Govt. of India. The jurisdiction of this university is spread over the eleven districts of the Vidarbha. According to the University Act 1983 (of the Government of Maharashtra), the University is entrusted with the responsibility of the agricultural education, research and extension education alongwith breeder and foundation seed programme.The University has its main campus at the Akola. The instructional programmes at main campus are spread over in 5 Colleges namely, College of the Agriculture, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, College of Forestry, College of Horticulture and Post Graduate Institute. At this campus 4 degree programmes namely as B.Sc.(Agri.) B.Sc. (Hort.), B.Sc. (Forestry) and B.Tech. (Ag.Engg.) , two Masters Degree Programmes viz. M.Sc.(Agri.) and the M.Tech. (Agri.Engg.) and Doctoral Degree Programmes in the faculties of Agriculture and Agril.Engineering are offered.The University has its sub-campus at Nagpur with the constituent College, College of the Agriculture which offers B.Sc.(Agri.) and M.Sc.(Agri.) degree programmes. The Nagpur Campus is accomplished with the garden, surrounded by its natural beauty and a well established Zoo which attract the general public and visitors to the city. A separate botanic Garden is being maintained on 22 hectares with the green house for the benefit of research workers.In addition there are 2 affiliated grant-in-aid colleges and 14 private non-grant-in-aid colleges under the umbrella of this University. A Central Research Station is situated at the main Campus which caters to the need of the research projects undertaken by Crop Scientists of the principle crops of the region are Cotton, Sorghum, Oilseeds and Pulses.

PDKV Akola Facilities:

Some of the facilities provided by the college include: 

Hostel: The college has separate accommodation facilities for the boys and girls, each with 41 rooms, accommodating 82 students. Additional facilities include TV, recreation hall, separate mess building, volleyball ground, etc.

Library: The library houses more than 1.57 lakh books and other reading materials, in addition to the 255 journals of the agricultural, technical, and allied science interest. It also has houses special interest collections and rare books.

Co-Curricular Activities: The College has many sports and physical education facilities. These include the gymnasium, the table tennis board, and a volleyball ground.

Educational Tours: Educational tours for B.Sc. (Agri.) candidates are arranged every year. The educational tours aim to provide a platform for the candidates to get acquainted with the practical knowledge and aspects of agriculture and allied sectors in other parts of the country. 

PDKV Akola Admissions:

Admissions to the UG courses are on the basis of the merit in the previous examination. However, admission to the PG courses and the Ph.D. course is on the basis of the Common Entrance Test conducted by the Maharashtra Agricultural Universities Examination Board (MAUEB), Pune. Some of the seats of each course are filled through the Common Entrance Examination to be conducted by the  I.C.A.R., New Delhi.

·         Probably, Integrated University Management System (IUMS) for the precise and timely declaration of results and streamlining academic activities.·          

·         2. The modernization of the laboratories by upgrading the advanced instrumentations; purchasing of chemicals, glasswares; replaced the older equipment, and made the AMC for most of the sophisticated equipment.·          

·         3. Video conferencing facility has been created at the University Head Quarter.·          

·         4. Extended good facilities to all the hostels including Wi-Fi facility·
