Central University of Kashmir
Central University of Kashmir which is often abbreviated as the Kashmir, formerly Central University of Jammu and Kashmir, is an central university situated in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. It was established in March 2009 through an Act of Parliament, "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by Govt. of India. The university started functioning from May 2009.

Milestones:

Substantive appointments to the various administrative posts
including the First Registrar, Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrar were made
in June, 2010.
Common Entrance Exam for admission to tha courses like MBA, M.Sc I.T and M.A.English programmes was
conducted on 19 and 20 June at 30 centres across India in collaboration with 6
other Central Universities.
The Transit Campus of the University was set up at the
Sonwar in August, 2010.
A boys hostel was set up at the Sonwar to facilitate the
candidates coming from the different parts of the State or Country.
Transport facility was put up in place to facilitate the
communication of the students to and from the University in February, 2011.
The work related to the demarcation of the land for
University Campus at the Ganderbal and preparation of Contour maps was allotted
to the CPWD.
Three more Masters programmes Economics, Mathematics,
Convergent Journalism and one Integrated BA LLB programme were offered from the
Academic Session 2011.
An Academic block of the Institute along with a boys and a
girls hostel were established at the Magarmal Bagh.
Substantive appointments to the various teaching positions
in the Management Studies, English, Information Technology, Law, Convergent
Journalism and Mathematics were made in February, 2012.
3 more Masters programmes Urdu, Education and Tourism
Management were launched for the Academic Session 2012.
Two Integrated M.Phil or Ph.D in Management and in English
programmes and LLM programme were also offered from the Academic Session 2012.
One more Masters's programme Politics was launched for the
Academic Session 2013.
B.Ed study Programme was launched in the Academic Session
2014.
Three more Integrated BSc and Msc programmes in Physics,
Zoology and Biotechnology were launched for the Academic Session 2015.
Two more Masters programmes M.Ed and Comparative Religions
were launched for the Academic Session of the year 2015.
The Institute will offer innovative courses for complimenting the efforts of the already existing Universities in the State. Recruitment of the faculty and the admission of the candidates will be on an all-India basis, adhering to reservation policy of the Central Government. National-level entrance examinations for the admission will be held by the University at many centres across the country. The Institute will be having following essential features that have been conceived befitting the international standards
School system to encompass related Centres with the
appropriate structures for administration to facilitate the Choice Based Credit
System(CBCS) in letter and spirit. To enlarge the curricular space and to
encourage accelerated learning opportunities, all the programmes will be
Semester based.
With a focus on the holistic personality development of the
candidates, all the academic programmes will be having Core, Elective,
Skill-based and Social-orientation courses.
Regular updation and revision of the curriculum will be
carried out in terms of the Current knowledge, national and international
developments, and relevance of thr new ideas, concepts and knowledge to the
concerned discipline.
Aiming to assess the values, skills and knowledge imbibed by
the candidates, Continuous Internal Assessment will be ensured.
University level Centres like the University-Industry-Community-Interaction Centre (UICIC), Internal Quality
Assurance Cell (IQAC), Student's Guidance and Counseling Centre, ICT
Facilitation Centre for teaching technology tools and website maintenance and
networking of the campus and departments, E-governance Facilitation Centre to
coordinate electronic administration as end-to-end solution and the Candidate
Placement Cell to be part of the University set up.
Candidates to be offered 'A' Grade facilities of the
library, internet, cafeteria, health club and transport services. Assured
scholarship to all the admitted research scholars.
Campus to be developed on the modern design with features of
the green campus and energy-efficient buildings. Provision for the future
expansion and space economy to be integral components of the plan.
Campuses are well equipped with an Integrated Security or Surveillance System using latest technological tools like Smart Cards (biometric), Electronic Intrusion Detection Systems, CCTV etc.

Mission
The mission of the University is to contribute to the educational, cultural, economic and social advancement of people by providing high-quality educational programmes leading to Bachelor, Masters, Professional and the Doctorate Degrees as well as to address the cultural, economic, educational, environmental, health and social needs of the region and nation at large.
Objectives
As per the Central Universities (Amendment) Act of 2009, the
objectives of the Central University of Kashmir are:
To disseminate and advance the Knowledge by providing
instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as the
Institute may deem fit;
To make special provisions for the integrated courses in
Humanities, Social Sciences, Science and Technology in its educational
programmes;
To take appropriate measures for promoting innovations
in teaching - learning process and interdisciplinary studies and research.
To educate and train the manpower for the development of the
country;
To establish the linkages with industries for the promotion
of science and technology, and
To pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people, their intellectual, academic and cultural development.
Campus
The Central University of Kashmir earlier started its operation from the rented accommodations in Hyderpora, Nowgam, Sonwar areas of the Srinagar district. It started shifting to its originally allotted district Ganderbal in the year 2018 and was completely shifted to Ganderbal in the year 2019.
The university currently operates from its 4 campuses in the district Ganderbal: Green Campus at Duderhama, Science Campus at Nunar, Science and Arts Campus at Old Hospital Building, Ganderbal, and Main Campus at Tulmulla.
The main campus at the Tulmulla is distributed over a large
area of more than 500 acres of the land. However, many of its buildings are
still under construction.
