Central University of Jharkhand
CUJ was established in the year 2009 under the first schedule of the Central Universities Act, 2009. The first and founding Vice-Chancellor (VC), Darlando Khathing, was appointed on 1 March 2009. Consequent upon the culmination of his tenure in March 2014, he was replaced by the acting vice-chancellor A.N. Misra. Prof. Misra served as the acting VC until the appointment of Nand Kumar Yadav Indu as permanent VC in August 2015. On completion of his term, Prof. Ratan Kumar Dey served as the acting VC for almost an year. Currently, Prof. Kshiti Bhusan Das is heading the Institute.
The Central University of Jharkhand came into the existence
on March 01, 2009 under Central Universities Act 2009 with a Vision “to develop
enlightened citizenship of a knowledge society for peace and prosperity of the
individuals, nation and the world, through the promotion of the innovation,
creative endeavors, and scholarly inquiry.” The Central University of
Jharkhand is the one and only central
University in the state of Jharkhand.
The University started with 4 departments in the year 2009 and has now 25 academic departments under 9 schools. The university will offer 18 integrated (UG-PG) programs under NEP-20;26 Post Graduate; and 17 doctoral study programs.
The city of Ranchi is situated at 23.23 N and 85.23 E at a height of 2140 feet above sea level. The permanent campus of the university is situated at Cheri-Manatu,18 KM from the Ranchi railway station. The campus is located on the Ranchi ring road near ITBP campus. The campus is in rapid expansion mode under the 1st phase of the development and includes hostels, academic and administrative buildings.

The University seeks to achieve this objective by cultivating an environment of excellence in teaching, research and innovation in pure and applied areas of learning.
OBJECTIVE
To disseminate and advance knowledge by providing the instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit;
To make special provisions for the integrated courses in humanities, social sciences, science and technology in its educational programs;
To take appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teaching-learning process and interdisciplinary studies and research;
To educate and train manpower for the development of our country;
To establish linkages with industries for the promotion of science and technology; and
To pay special attention to the improvement of social and economic conditions and the welfare of the people, their intellectual, academic and cultural development
FELLOWSHIPS, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND STUDENTSHIPS
In order to encourage
the meritorious and deserving candidates to pursue courses of studies and
research in the University without great financial strain, the University shall
strive to provide for an adequate number of Scholarships, Fellowships, and Studentships and Free-ships for financial help, and also provide for award
of the Medals and Prizes.
There shall be
instituted Scholarships in every subject to be awarded to the candidates of the
University subject to the availability of the funds. Rules for the award of the
same will be laid down in the Regulations.
There shall be a fee
concession in the form of half and full Free-ships of the tuition fee in each
Department as per the Ordinance of the University.
There shall be
Fellowships instituted in the University, subject to the availability of funds,
for studies or research as approved under the norms of the UGC or other funding
agencies from time to time.
There shall be a
scheme to award medals or prizes to the meritorious candidates of the
University for their Best Performance in various University Exams.
All types of Scholarships and Freeships shall be administered at the Institute level by a Committee to be constituted by the Vice-Chancellor.
Central Library
The Central Library of the university provides access not only to the text and
reference books but also to a wide range of information to widen the horizons
of the users’ knowledge and to support a host of their learning activities.

• Journal – 50+ national and international journals/magazines e-Resources and e-Books – 4500+ e-Journals.
Hostels
Central University of the Jharkhand provides separate hostel facilities for the boys and girls candidates. All CUJ candidates are eligible to apply for the Hostel seats. However, the seats are only limited. This is their home away from home and a place where we can see the “Union in Diversity” of India. Candidates from different parts of the country with different cultural and religious backgrounds are living in complete harmony.
The following criteria are used for the hostel allocation (girls and boys)
(i). Merit (Percentage /Mark obtained in entrance
examination).
(ii). Distance from the permanent address to CUJ campus.
(iii). Reservation policy for the admission in CUJ as per
GoI rules: Other Backward Classes (OBC NCL) 27%, Scheduled Castes (SC) 15%,
Scheduled Tribes (ST) 7.5% and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) 10% of the
total seats.
(iv). Person with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) 05% (Horizontal).
Extra-Curricular Activities

Students Support Services Cell
The University has established a Candidates Support Services
Cell to counsel students during pre-admission; at the time of admission; before
fieldwork; career counseling. The students are helped in their placement by
inviting NGOs, PSUs and Private Corporate houses in the campus and organizing
campus interviews.
