ANDHRA KESARI UNIVERSITY 

Andhra Kesari University is a public university located in Ongole, Andhra Pradesh. It was established on the 11 January 2022. The university was named after Tanguturi Prakasam, the political leader, social reformer and anti-colonial nationalist. He served as the chief minister of the Madras Presidency and subsequently became the first chief minister of the erstwhile Andhra State. He was known as the “Andhra Kesari” which translates to “Lion of Andhra” 

Campus:

The present Post-Graduate campus existed with 3.16 acres. In addition to this, it has 109.80 acres of land at the Pernamitta, Ongole. The said multidisciplinary university is proposed to be established in the Pernamitta village of Santhanuthalapadu Mandal, Prakasam district, with an exclusive focus on Teacher Education, by relocating the existing P.G centre of the Acharya Nagarjuna University. 

ABOUT COLLEGE:

Andhra Kesari College of Education Prakasam is an affiliated B Ed college of the Acharya Nagarjuna University and is also recognized by the government of Andhra Pradesh. The college has got approval for the undergraduate course of the B Ed from the National Council for the Teacher Education (NCTE), from the year 2001. 

Cutting a cake to rejoice the occasion, university Officer on Special Duty (OSD) K.V.N.Raju said that the varsity named after the statesman Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu was now being run out of the Post Graduate campus of the Acharya Nagarjuna University. “The Andhra Kesari University is likely to get about the ?400 crore to upgrade the infrastructure. A proposal has been submitted to the government for the running it with teacher training courses with an intake of 1,000 candidates,” he said. 

Thanking Ministers A. Suresh and the Balineni Srinivasa Reddy and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman Y.V.Subba Reddy for their initiative in getting the green signal from the State government for the varsity, educationist E. Gurnatha Rao said 19 PG courses including teacher training courses would be offered with the 150 teaching and non-teaching staff at the varsity. 

“Prakasam district is all set to become an education hub with the government sanctioning a medical college at the Markapur and super-specialty hospital,” Janadu Centre for the Literature and Arts president N. Ravikumar said. 

The candidates and their parents expected that their migration for education might come to an end when the government announced the second-generation universities in 2006, but their dreams were be shattered. Later, the 12^th State Higher Education Plan for the period 2014-17, the state project directorate of The APSCHE also recommended for establishment of the university in the Prakasam district but it was not realized. After a lot of persuasion, the then Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation for the Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam University at Ongole on December 12, 2018, but failed to complete the procedures to realize it. 

Courses Offered by the Andhra Kesari Degree College, Rajahmundry:

The P.G. Centre was started on the 16^th Nov, 1993 with four departments (M.A. History, M.A. Economics, M.Sc. Mathematics, and M.Com and M.B.A) and five courses. Later in 2008 two courses were started i.e., Social Work and M.Ed., and in 2014 M.Sc. Statistics and B. P. Ed. Courses were initiated. In the present academic year i.e., 2018-19, M. P. Ed. The course has been started. Recently, Dr. Pola Bhaskar, Collector and vice-chancellor of Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam University has been proposed to start another 11 new courses for two year Science Post Graduate courses five-year Integrated courses and one-year Diploma courses for the academic years 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 at the Pernamitta Campus of Acharya Nagarjuna University Ongole Campus, and Ongole.

Infrastructure:

The campus is equipped with a central library, and it is consisting of 8225 books, 28 periodicals and 07 newspapers. At present P.G. center located at the N.S.P. Colony, Ongole. The present P.G. Centre existed with 3.16 acres, and possessed one Administrative cum Academic Block, Library and three sheds with the asbestos roof. In addition to the present campus, it has 109.80 acres of the land at Pernamitta (Ongole). Acharya Nagarjuna University has constructed one academic block with a cost an amount of Rupees one crore at the Pernamitta site. Previously, the honorable vice-chancellor Dr. A. Rajendraprasad Garu has been sanctioned an amount of The Rupees 3 crores for construction of one hostel building and compound wall at the Pernamitta site. In the later initiation of the constructions, the compound wall was partially completed but the construction of the hostel building is pending till to date. Recently, Dr. Pola Bhaskar, Collector and vice-chancellor of Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam University has been the proposed to the construction of the Auditorium, Shilparamam, Hostel Buildings and also DPR prepared by the Bhargava Architecture to the construction of buildings for College of Arts, College of Science, College of Commerce and Management, College of Physical Education with the estimation cost of the Rupees three hundred crores at Pernamitta Campus of the Acharya Nagarjuna University Ongole Campus, or Ongole.

Project:

The department of History has been awarded one major UGC project entitled “Perspectives of the Buddhism in Prakasam District of  the Andhra Pradesh”.

Staff particulars:

At present A.N.U. Ongole Campus has the 5 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors, 9 Assistant Professors (Contract Basis), 8 Guest faculties, and 2 consolidated basis employees and 20 supporting staff.

Since the beginning of the A.N.U. Ongole Campus, 24 batches of candidates have been passed out. Many students have secured good positions and are settled in various capacities in the public and private sectors. At present applicants strength 410 (Girls 168 + Boys 242), and research Scholars 150. The alumni of the institute have the striving to take this centre into the limelight with their academic achievements. 

Achievements:

All the faculty, candidates and research scholars participated in Mavuru Janmabhoomi program during 02-01-2018 to 11-01-2018. 10 candidates from Physical Education and Sports Sciences are participated in the inter-university and at the national level sports meet.

The AP government had cleared the proposal to establish a university in the Prakasam district. 

The cabinet meeting held on Wednesday cleared the proposal and named the university as the Andkra Kesari University, in honor of the freedom fighter and Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu, the first chief minister of the Andhra State. The district was also named after this great leader.
